LIS Congress 2009 - AM session
February 28, 2009
Speakers:
- Dean Vyva Aguirre
- Hon. Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista
- Ms. Zarah Gagatiga, the Storyteller
- Ma'am Emma Rey, Archivist
- Mr. Juned Sonido, blogger
Personal thoughts:
- Nice to meet other Bedans again other than Yet, like Vice Mayor Bistek and Frank Miranda, a former LISSAP member now based in Batangas.
- Nice to see Vice-Mayor Herbert Bautista again, I remember him from San Beda days in my Mom and Dad's classes. Also bumped into him in high school. Nice to hear about his thoughts on librarianship and its relation to his academic and public service life.
- Listening to Ma'am Emma, I wonder if I should go archives again, been a while since my MLS archives subjects. Need to update.
- I've known Ms. Zarah as a storyteller through her blog http://lovealibrarian.blogpsot.com, a definite pleasure to see a demo of her storytelling. I was mesmerized. I do chalk talk in class, done chamber theater, participative interactive, props, puppets, oral telling and read aloud. But Story Kamishibai really blew me away! Nice that some of the 114 peeps saw it too.
- Talked with old classmate Juned Sonido of the Blog and Soul Movement, http://blogandsoul.net. We talked about the increasing possibility of streaming SLIS content. Might do that in the near future. Juned also blogs at http://baratillo.net, http://dalanghita.com, http://1read2.org and http://radiocubao.com
- I just love this day on a personal note.

MV Doulos in Manila
Got this from Ms. Zarah Gagatiga over at School Librarian in Action.
MV Doulos, the floating bookstore, is now in Bacolod and will be docking in Manila on March 5, 2009 up to until probably March 31.
Doulos.org upcoming ports.
If you're in the area do hop onboard and see for yourself.
(Not really a class requirement, but do so on your own cognizance... It will make you a better person. )

MAHLAP Tagaytay
Mahlap 21st National Conference, "The Challenge of Change: Development and Partnership Towards Globalization", held in Tagaytay Country Hotel, Tagaytay City, February 25 to 27. I talked on "Emerging new technologies and applications for medical and health libraries" last February 25. I went there with Ma'am Elvie, she talked on Health Information Literacy. Medyo nahirapan ata syang humabol-habol sa akin sa bilis kong gumalaw habang nagsasalita.

From early-day modems and green screens,
to easily connecting with friends and family today -
it's been a colorful journey."
Hehehe, it's been that long?

LIS Congress 2009 - Zarah Gagatiga
Ma'am Zarah will be talking about "Storytelling 101 for Librarians" at the LIS Congress 2009.
I would suggest that the groups discussing this for LIS 114 at least have one group member attending that particular lecture.

Denver Public Library: Teens: Entertainment/media - Bear Valley Events
http://teens.denverlibrary.org/media/bearvalley.html
They have an anime club and gaming day...
Inside the library.
How cool is that?
(For those asking about gaming and anime in libraries. Note that it's a regular meet club and not a perpetual service like an internet cafe.)

UP AME: Anime in the FIlipino Eye
Got to sit on the panel with Melvin Calingo (Taga-Ilog) of Culture Crash, Jay Fournier of Toei Animation Philippines and Miss Hanna of UP AME. Aliw, haven't seen Taga-Ilog in years, last I think was when our publications were still active. It was nice to hear everyone's insights on anime and manga in the Philippines.

Not so OC...
Finally decided that two (2) large thick plastic folders (per day sked) was not the way to go. Went with color-coded plastic envelopes per class instead.
*Note: Color has no bearing on how hard the subject is, though assigning LIS 166 to the red envelope was intentional.

Tito Ninong, Fix...
So my nephew Enzo barges into my room while I was watching the WWE with his toy in hand. It was a slinky. A heart-shaped slinky all in a tangled mess. With arms outstretched he hands me his slinky and says, "Tito Ninong, fix?!"
Ganun naman papel ko sa buhay nya, e, "Tito Ninong, fix." Daddy is the "taga-assemble" ng laruan. Tito Ninong is the "taga-repair"... If it's repairable, that is. Some though, are beyond salvation.
So I proceeded to undo the tangled damage done. After a few minutes, as if on cue, he barges in again and asks, "Tito Ninong, tapos na?" I hand it over to him. "Thank you."
God only knows how long it will stay fixed.
