UPLISSA Big Night '09 @PenPen

August 29, 2009. PenPen Restaurant, Tomas Morato, QC.

UPLISSA held its annual Big Night last August 29 at the PenPen Restaurant at 105-C Scout Castor, Brgy. Laging Handa, Quezon City. The place was easy to find, coming from Timog and going round and left at the rotonda to Tomas Morato, and right at Scout Castor, one could easily see Pen Pen. The restaurant is situated in a cozy nook right beside Pet Studio and Bound Bookshop (http://boundbooks.net) and across L.A. restaurant.

PenPen is a two-storey place with the Up↑Stairs available for parties, private functions, events etc! (Regular opening will be this September, I think we were one of the binyag events of the Up↑Stairs, hehehe).

Okay, to make it short and sweet, the place is cozy, just the way I like it. Enough for a party of close friends, we didn't have trouble fitting in. The long stretch from the stairs starts with the sofas then it transitions to the tables and ends with the corner nook which could serve as a small stage for presentations (see below). Creature comforts for each and everyone. A lot of LISSAlistas were torn whether to slump on the soft sofa or curl up in the nook or sit at the tables. Any place Up↑Stairs was comfortable.

At first we were wondering where we could set up the LCD projector but found that the walls seemed a natural fit for the presentations for that evening. Oh, and there's wifi, so we were able to stream the event as well as make on the fly updates for those who weren't able to come (virtual reunion attendance, anyone?) Of course on fun nights you may end up regretting what you tweet, fb or plurk, hehehe (incriminating evidence, anyone?).

I will never be able to say enough about the food. Nabundat ako sa kakakain. Personal fave was the Molo Soup. (Yebah! loved that since I was young, like what Tita used to make.) The spiciness of the Binagoongan had me craving for extra helpings of rice as I was eating (ang tunay na lalaki, parating may extra rice...) And then, came the BBB (Baked Bangus Belly) w/ Quezong Puti layer. You know me, I don't eat fish. Well, the way this was cooked didn't bother me and had me going for thirds. Hehehe. Oh, and that Crispy Liempo for pulutan really didn't last long... Kundangan kasi kalalapag pa lang e pinapak na agad! Hehehe.

The program started at around 8pm with LISSA apps, mems and alumni all in attendance. Kung wala kayo, malas nyo. :D Busog na kami, solb na tas laugh trip pa. The theme was Statement Shirts and everyone had something to say (see below). Well, what you wore probably reflects your state of mind. With that said, I am bothered... Hehehehe... Dean Vy was there. Alumni James, Tadz, Sir Melvin and the Kambals Malou and Marie were there. Yet and Bianca started off the program. I gave the opening remarks. Then the intro AVPs flashed onscreen. Asia then introduced the apps. The apps sang their hearts out. Yes, napakanta namin sina Stoi, GM at Noey! The apps won over the alumni in the kindat-nguso game. Laurence won the apple-eating contest (sanay na sanay, a).

After eating came the unexpected part of the program... The two Chie's (Joan and Hazel) entertained as Kuya Boy and Ate Krissie. Laglagan na! Iinum na lang yan! Resident alumni (is there such a thing?) James, incumbent president Jean and Dean Vy took the stage to end the program. Pahabol... Resident dancers Emong, Del and Hazel did "Nobody!" Walang halos rehearsal pero swabe! Bwahahahaha! Bonding lasted till 3am. Solb.

PenPen proved to be the perfect place for a perfect night.

See you all next year!

UPcat's Back

Yup, UPcat, king of the UP Main Library Cats, is back. He left when there was a lot of noise from the renovation of the Main Lib steps. Saw him yesterday and I just had to take a pic of him again. Sabi nga ng mga guards, "Andyan na ho uli, kaso madungis sya ngayon." Yeah, and he hangs around the guard table instead of the pillar. Maybe he's sick and tired of Catalog already. :D

Painting My Sister's Preggy Tummy

Nainggit sya sa mga nakikita sa net.
Had a few minutes to spare (15mins, actually).
Couldn't think of anything, when something popped in my head I had to paint it, otherwise it would have been lost.
Ergo, the dog butt. (lmao)
Now back to checking papers.

Shirts and Buttons

Von's post over at Filipino Librarian re: "Librarian Buttons and Shirts" prompted me to rummage through my closet to take stock of the shirts I have.

I'm fiercely loyal to organizations and institutions which treat me well. I graduated from San Beda College (SBC) Mendiola, grade school and high school. They say once a Bedan, always a Bedan... Hence the shirts...  And... Yeah... That's where I became a member of the Library Club...

I particularly like the one that says "It takes a Lion to Survive the Jungle out there..." Oh, and I have the "Animo Scarf" too (draped up top).

And of course, I graduated from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, undergraduate and masters, both from the School of Library and information Studies (SLIS).

I know I have more UP shirts somewhere, they're probably in the wash. Below's an old shirt when the SLIS was still the ILIS or Institute of Library and Information Science.

I suppose by now you've noticed that a lot of my shirts are black. Yeah... I love black shirts. Sadly, the shirt of the Philippine eLib project, which I'm part of, is colored avocado green. I really don't see myself wearing this in the near future on my own volition.

I love the design on the next one. It's the 2008-09 shirt of the UP Library and Information Science Students Association (UPLISSA). I hope there'd be a black version of this.

This one too, UPLISSA's LIS Congress 2009 shirt.

This "i need. i value. I LOVE MY LIBRARY" shirt I got from the UP College of Engineering Library II Library Shop.

And lastly, the 100% Pinoy Librarian shirt and buttons from the UP Library Science Alumni Association (UPLSAA).

Also, two of the buttons above from UP Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines (UPFLIPP) events. The middle button is from Bianca. "Mabuti na ang sumuka, wag lang sumuko!" reflects a personal philosphy of mine. :D

Well, so much for shirts and buttons.

Visit

John and Abie, my friends who are based in Japan, are here in the country for the summer break. They passed by our house after making the rounds of relatives here down south. They gave me pasalubong!

That's 1 Japanese tabletop figurine (snarling wolf, forgot the artist though), 1 classic Batman Hot Wheels (hehehehehe), 3 hyperyoyos and 2 yoyo traveling cases. :D

Happy gorilla.

I'm gonna need those yoyo cases for the upcoming Philippine Yoyo Nationals this December.

Gorilya at Rosas

May nagbigay ng mga rosas kay Migs sa tambayan! Hehehehe.

Pag-akyat ko naman, may gorilyang nasa trapeze sa table ko galing kina Ma'am Iyra at Ms Janine. "GorIyra" daw itawag sa kanya, "Gori" for short. May bagong kasama na sina Illa, Ilya, Liit, Kambal, Kulay atbp. Gori's the largest of my gorillas so far. Next si ILLA. Smallest si Liit.:D

Also took pics of all my monkeys, Ma'am Tin's sudoku, crossword and wordsearch gift (para daw sa madalas kong pagkaka-trapik), the stuffed toy pile in the house (di pa kasama mga hello kitty ni utol, nasa bahay nila naman yung mga yun, our pile needs weeding na), and the Xmas Bear.
