My name is rain...

SLIS Faculty Workshop.
April 28 to 30, 2009. Lagos del Sol, Caliraya, Cavinti, Laguna.

No sunset / sunrise shots this year. But the rain pouring from the gutter looked mighty fine. Some digital pinhole shots too.

R & R - Lagos Del Sol

SLIS Faculty Workshop
April 28 to 30, 2009. Lagos del Sol, Caliraya, Cavinti, Laguna.

Rains kept us in most of the time. So how do we conduct hazing / initiation of new faculty members? We make them sing.... Hehehehehehehe.

SLIS Faculty Workshop

This year's theme: Charting your future with more creative ways of academic torture... Hehehe...

April 28 to 30, 2009. Lagos del Sol, Caliraya, Cavinti, Laguna.

Some notes on this.

  • Same place as last year, still nice and cozy.

  • Some new faces.

  • Rained the whole time so not much on the R & R.

  • Minor disaster for me. Normal trip to Caliraya w/ minivan was 2 1/2 to 3hrs. on the way home, damn 2wheel (rear-only) drive broke in Pagsanjan. Had to drive painfully slow with 4wheel drive engaged to run the van using the front wheels with the rear wheels freewheeling. Took me 5hrs+. Had to run only at 40kph max, plus the with the extra effort needed to spin the front wheels, overheating was a major problem. Had to gas station hop along SLEX. At least I got home safe.

SLIS Recognition Program 09 - Pt. 2

Photos during the keynote address and presentation of the graduating class.

Note: bad pics... sira na auto-focus. and the non-RAW pics (straight JPG) have a funky, psychedelic color. O_o;; I have no idea why they ended up like that. Salvage jobs.

SLIS Recognition Program 09 - Pt. 1

Photos during the pre-program and recognition of the graduating class.

Note: medyo sira na auto-focusing mechanism nung cam ko kaya madami ng sablay (pun intended). :( And these are the better ones, grabe yung next set.

For SLIS grads...

Longer version of the video, di simbilis ng kanina.
Different bg music, wala akong magamit na backing tracks. :(

Congratulations. :D

Poi find...

A couple of people (eg, JR, Carina, Eli, Clair, etc,) will be mad at me for this. Like the time I bought the last PhP1,000 pair of Yoho glow poi at Hobbes and Landes. This time I found my way to Save on Surplus, BF ParaƱaque branch. It was near the barber shop where I had my hair cut.

It was this S.O.S. branch's moving out sale. There, on the bargain bin table, were two pairs of mood lights. Interestingly enough, they were of the same make as my glow poi: soft rubber, changing lights, watch battery. The only difference was the lack of the strobe function.

And it cost only PhP100 a pair. I bought the last two.
Hehehehehe.

Maybe the other branches have stocks left. :D

UPLISSA logbook 92-93

I found it! This is logbook number 4, I think. Rene turned-over logbook no. 1 to me, Dang took logbook no. 2 with her to Canada, logbook no. 3 was lost somewhere in Holy Spirit.

Things to look for:
1. Mag-usap tayo series
2. Carolling
3. Pizza man and the mascots and other comics
4. Wala pang txt at email masyado noon, check out announcements na parang txt-brig, coordination ng gimik et al.
5. Time ito ng nauso ang Tetris.
6. This was also the time Ma'am Pat C. passed away.
7. Dracula ang usong movie pa nuon.
8. Probably the dirtiest and stinkiest logbook ever. We had this bad habit of dabbing soy sauce and hot sauce from the restaurant where we ate on the gimik log page before all signing it.

At nakakapag-drowing pa ako nun sa dami ng ginagawa sa college. Mga inabot na batches: Arnold Zafra to Denise Simbol.

Logbook 1 is here, somewhere in my albums.
Logbook 2 is here, somewhere in Dang's albums in Facebook.

Warning: maraming mura at baladyaan dito. Sabagay, things don't change that much naman.

And yes, I grew a mullet after finishing CMT / ROTC.

In search of an axe

Just trust Ian (aka "Archangel" Gabriel, aka Lestat... and all the other names he goes by...) to drag me out of bed on Easter Sunday to look for a guitar. He's setting up a Goth Metal / Rock band.

Yesterday, before midnight, he texted me about his weird fear. I was doing my grades at that time. He thought an angel chorus was coming to fetch him already. Turns out it was just the Salubong procession from our church passing in front of our streets.

So he just reminded me of our music store scavenge for today.

We nixed the idea of going to Raon or Sta. Mesa, too far and probably too crowded. Though in our younger years we wouldn't have hesitated.

I've known Ian since our Auditory Onslaught and (the ill-fated) Happy Shrimps days together with Jon (who's now in the US) and Maureen (who's probably a lawyer now). And, yes, the band names are indicative of the type of music as well as the sound.

Ian scouring the racks for an axe.

So, off we went to SM SouthMall. We found our way to Perfect Pitch and JB Music, intent on acquiring an electric guitar and possibly some efx.

Black Fernando Les Paul

After looking at the racks and trying out a cheap (4k) strat starter package (JS Shindler Guitar + small amp + cord + strap), he wasn't satisfied. Ian finally settled on a black Fernando Les Paul (8.5k). Not enough left over for additional efx, though.

Ooookay... Had I known this would happen then maybe we shouldn't have sold our old stuff a couple of years back. I mean, this was what his old guitar looked like 17 years ago. *Sigh* Old habits die hard.

Speaking of old habits, he absent-mindedly churned out some scales, a couple of riffs and Master of Puppets lines to test it out. (Kinakalawang ka na, ano?) Apparently he likes resting the edge of his palm on the bridge of Les Pauls, something he's uncomfortable doing with other guitar bridges. That's one happy axeman.

Dunno what I'll be doing, maybe keyboards or drums duty for this one. Kaya lang nakakapagod drums, e. Keyboard na lang. :D Gotta look for a nice keyboard then. And re-study some stuff. Those drum kits in JB Music look kinda tempting, though. I know another neighbor of ours, Ian S. (of reggae group Peacepipe), will probably be doing some stuff on bass, plus some guitar guy coming home from abroad for lead or rhythmn. Okay 'to, isang taga-rock, isang taga-cover, isang taga-reggae, isang taga-jmusic cover, atbp tutugog ng Goth.. Ano kaya tunog namin?

Goth Metal / Rock... Jeez... How will I deal with this. Pahamak ka Ian! (Ito rin ba yung sinasabi mong metal symphonic na kailangan ng keyboardist na balak mo a couple of months ago?) Basta, pahamak ka.

Hehehe.

P3 at the Park

The old P3 boyband, Questor, ABS-CBN and manga peeps met again for a late lunch and early merienda this April 6, 2009. We ate ice cream at elfav and ate merienda at Kopi Roti (yup, in that order). Both are at Pergola, BF ParaƱaque, Phase 1.

Elfav has a nice concept of having board games at the tables to while away the time. I took a liking to the magnetic monkey-flip dartboard (I did my grades using this while waiting for the ice cream).

The P3 boys couldn't resist, we struck a pose at the mini-park. If we had another album cover, this would be it.

From left: (standing) Bebert (aka Dodong Diesel), Kenneth (aka Vince Valvolene, formerly Ryan Rev-X),
and Olan (aka Brad Barbula). Seated: Igor (aka Cody Havoline)

Cherry had a bum toe, OJTs dropped foamboards on it. And in the absence / in lieu of Fafa Nick, we're getting Patty to do some management work for us.

Till next time, guys.

It's HERE! (OTRFK)

It has been a good weekend for me. This morning LBC had a package for me.

After years of looking for a copy, I finally found and got one.

It's "Only the Ring Finger Knows" (OTRFK),  one of my first overseas lettering jobs way back in 2004-05. I never did get a copy of my own. I once scoured the local bookstores yet I was always been beaten to the stocks by other people also looking for the title. Never had any luck.

Not anymore.

Thanks to Ms. Jo and Ms. Rizza (ironic names, ano?) of Eiwa's Manga Store here in Multiply, I finally have one for my portfolio. Do pay them a visit for your manga fix. I highly recommend them.

:D

Sixteen years ago...
I asked Buddy to have his band sign the cassette insert.

I found it!
It was lost for a couple of months (maybe even a year or two).
Saw the pile of cassette tapes and VIOLA!
There it was.

(note: as it turns out, "ultraelectromagneticpop" is too long for a tag in multiply.)
