Bye, Sir. Thank you.

This post is a little late, but it has to be made. Dean Rosalie Faderon and Prof. Vyva Aguirre told me the news last week. So did Ate Rhina and Ate Shelly of the SLIS office. Dr. Robinson C. Soria, former College Secretary of the College of Education, passed away last July 10, 2007. He was one of the panel members for my Master's thesis 8 years ago. Bye, Sir, and thank you.

Nuthin... Just found this on Youtube. Bunch of other cool vids from the vid-owner: byronfgarcia. :D Naaliw lang ako.

A Simple Fire Jam

This post just aggregates my vids and the vids of Carina on the simple fire jam at the UP CHK, July 20, 2007 with Christian, JR, Jeho and Carina. (some more to be added later according to Carina)

We used to meet for poi practice Saturday mornings. But since work and studies got in our way, we moved the time to Friday nights. Last Friday, I got a text msg from JR on my cell phone before the meet. It read "BRING YOUR FIRE TOYS." So, being a good boy that I am (or good gorilla), I brought my fire poi... And my firechucks.

It was so nice being able to see JR spin fire. Mr Suave kasi yun sa fire poi. Hehehe. UP CHK is the College of Human Kinetics, where all the athletic people are. We were spinning fire near the weights room and JR's friends Jeho and Christian joined us and spun fire in between sets. It was also Carina's Baptism of Fire: her First Burn.

Anj's Despedida

I found my way to Recipe and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, both in TriNoma Mall, QC, last Friday. July 6, 2007.

The kuyukots barkada had a simple dinner / coffee despedida for our college friend Anj. She's leaving at the end of the month with her kids to join her husband Sirwin in New Zealand. (And so doth further depleting the ranks of the kuyukots in the Philippines). The remaining brave souls left in the Philippines are me, Elvie Lapuz, Rolly Cua, Petite Geronimo and family, and Enteng Tenefrancia with Luchi.

UPLISSA General Assembly, July 6, 2007

The UPLISSA (UP Library and Information Science Students Association), an organization based in the UP School of Library and Information Studies, UP Diliman, held their first General Assembly (GA) last Friday, July 6, 2007.

The UPLISSA had been battling against a depleted membership line-up (down to about 8 members, I think) when the majority of the membership base graduated last academic year. They bounced back this year through the efforts of Glenn, Kit, and the remaining members, with the help of recent UPLISSA alumni and the UPLISSA Alumni Board, when they launched an intensive membership drive to increase their ranks.

For those who are concerned about the welfare of the org (yes, that means you, Tyran, James and Christina), I think you have no need to worry. Things look okay, you left behind good orgmates who won't let the UPSLIS's oldest student academic org go down in smoke (but from what I've seen, if they're going down, they'd rather do so in a blaze of glory).

Ma'am Vyva Aguirre and I are the co-advisers and we were there for the GA, we'll do our darndest to help these guys out.

They've got exposure trips, academic help groups, other academic activities and bonding meets as well as several fund-raising activities lined up. One activity geared toward raising the necessary operating funds, touching base with alumni, establishing professional connections and OJT contacts is a UPLISSA Alumni Homecoming and Cocktails slated for the end of August. So if you're part of the UPLISSA alumni and you're free around that time, I'm going to make kulit you so that you'll join us then. :D
