LIS 114: Literature for Children, Photoscene Submissions

The exercise in a nutshell was an 8R photo of a scene from any story discussed in class. Hehehe. Again, surprises! That happens every time we do this exercise. Comments by me and feedback from other people follow the graphic. (Note: graphic is just a compo from campics)

Personally I would have gone with one strong image rather than multiple images per submission, but then that's just me. The guys and gals probably twisted a couple of arms, most probably those of their friends and family, for photographer and model duties.

Photo 1:
This a tribute to Peter Pan's Lost Boys by Gelai (modeled by her friend). Mixed but nice reactions on this one. Some thought it was Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit because of the ears. The slingshot also threw some people off, they thought it was a local character.

Photo 2:
A "Putoshoot" mash-up of Robin Hood and Juan Tamad by Maan, Monmon and Juabe (and photog Victor). Monmon in drag had people laughing their asses off. Confusion again with Maan's green get up. No, it's not Peter Pan, it's Robin Hood (Disney Green). Plus points for the Depth of Field (major draw from people who saw it) and the William Tell apple reference. (Not bad for a hack / rush job, huh?) There's another photo too but just of Juan Tamad.

Photo 3:
Could have been executed better but plus points to the group of Jeya, Jam and Noey for picking “Chenelyn! Chenelyn!” by Rhandee Garlitos. (Gee, I wonder why my students keep climbing up trees? O_o;; See next...)

Photos 4 and 5:
This is a brownish Tarzan and Jane take by Teo and Lara (and model friend). Yeah, yeah, I know Fra and other guys hate off-color shots, but I liked this one. And anyone willing to go shirtless and go up a tree for an LIS 114 project has my vote (partida, pagod pa sa UP Fair duties at galing sa sakit pa yan... O nagkasakit pa lalo dahil nag-tanggal ng shirt? O_o;;)

Photo 6:
Karis took a pic of her friend in Card Captor Sakura get up. Why she's up a tree... I don't know. (Bentang-benta mga puno at damuhan sa lagoon sa inyong lahat, ha.) There's another photo by Karis but I like this one.

Photo 7:
Berber, Liyan and Michi and their take on Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Yes, Liyan has loyal fans secretly wishing she'd go to school dressed up like that... Wings included. Most common comment was that the images of Peter and Tink seemed disconnected, not interacting. "Halatang magka-ibang pic." A suggestion was Tink alighting on Peter's hand.

Photo 8:
Black musketeers with Leo, JM and Deon. Kinda missed the musketeer hats with feathers though. :D

So there. Last year's photos were tough acts to follow (Pinocchio and Alamat ng Pinya in particular), but I think the guys held their own.

  1. enjoy nga yang mga yan. :D not too much pressure in class. basta resolve ko that we should have fun. pero nagaaway-away yan pag reporting na re: details ng stories. :D last stops nila ay mybook project (kung sila gagawa ng ch book, how would it look like?) and storytelling. :D
