Depressing Saturday Fire Poi

Arrived from work and was playing Rammstein in the car. Decided not to turn the player off, got my fire poi and lit up right in the driveway. Mostly short chain. Haven't done this in a while. Been a depressing month for me.

A-poi Fire Dancers - Hearts on Fire

February 14, 2008. UP Fair. Sisfire 6 was the concert was in full force. Outside the UP Fair grounds was another story. The A-poi Fire Dancers were burning down the house. I met very cool peeps that day. Hi to JR, Mike, Bort, Maria, Via, and the rest of the guys. Sorry if I got some of your names wrong. :D Photos taken with Canon 400D, smaller photos with Panasonic Lumix FZ10. Trankaso pa rin ako. But it was worth it seeing them spin fire.

It had been raining hard for the past week. When the rain stopped I took out the fire toys (fire poi and firechucks) and practiced a bit. Tried single and double firechucks as well as fire poi and three-headed fire poi (all homemade). My uncle died while I was editing this, so this vid is for him.

My uncle, Gaudencio Paguia, former Dean of the College of Dentistry of MCU and past president of the Philippine Dental Association, passed away while I was making this vid. This one's for him.

A Simple Fire Jam

This post just aggregates my vids and the vids of Carina on the simple fire jam at the UP CHK, July 20, 2007 with Christian, JR, Jeho and Carina. (some more to be added later according to Carina)

We used to meet for poi practice Saturday mornings. But since work and studies got in our way, we moved the time to Friday nights. Last Friday, I got a text msg from JR on my cell phone before the meet. It read "BRING YOUR FIRE TOYS." So, being a good boy that I am (or good gorilla), I brought my fire poi... And my firechucks.

It was so nice being able to see JR spin fire. Mr Suave kasi yun sa fire poi. Hehehe. UP CHK is the College of Human Kinetics, where all the athletic people are. We were spinning fire near the weights room and JR's friends Jeho and Christian joined us and spun fire in between sets. It was also Carina's Baptism of Fire: her First Burn.

Fire Poi at Buboy's Place

File this under things you shouldn't do when drunk. I'm learning fire poi and brought my homemade poi to a drinking session of my barkada at Buboy's place. Pois hit me a couple of times because I was woozy after a couple of beers. The drunk guys in the background were asking for "Rock the Baby". O_o;; JR's teaching me poi every weekend. I need to work on my transitions.
