Mamma Mia: It's all about Aphrodite's fountain

Rating:★★★★★

Mamma Mia...
Here I go again...
My, my...
How can I resist you...
  • Love the music. Catchy LSS-inducing ABBA classics.
  • Story's simple, more feelgood than anything else.
  • Acting's okay. But.. ika nga ni Chad at ni Dan, they'll never be able to watch Pierce Brosnan in an action flick ever again after this.
  • Singing? Not bad, not opera exceptional. Which brings me to Pierce, he probably was the weakest link. But then, the music more than makes up for the singing. And everyone was probably there to see how the music and the West End Musical translates into a movie musical.
  • Treatment was awesome. I was surprised to see Greek and Shakespearean theater elements added. Note the Greek chorus, the Shakespearean comedic (split) mirroring (one member of triumvirate sleeping in bed, both for young'uns and oldies) and end confrontational twist, the masks... LOVE IT!!! Note also the Bollywood / West Side Story segregation of all-male and all-female numbers in several scenes as well as the Bachanallian shirtless traipsing under Aphrodite's blessings (dolphin of the sea where Aphrodite emerged from the foam).
  • Cinematography? Saw it twice, Trinoma and SM Southmall. Dunno if it was a projector problem but in SM Southmall the shadows were more pronounced. The director could probably have used more light (reflectors) in some outdoor scenes. I saw about three scenes where shadows were intrusive on the faces of the actors.
  • Three triumvirates, gotta love that.
  • Couldn't stop laughing at "past" Pierce Brosnan's hair and moustache as well as Stellan Skarsgård's bare butt.
  • It's all about Aphrodite's fountain. Love the way it begins and ends with that and the song "I Had a Dream" as well.
Am waiting for the DVD and if the cast will perform at the Oscars.

Plus, Colin Firth (sounds like a bad lisp -- or should I say lithp :D -- doesn't it?) is also in the cast so... two thumbs up!!!!!
