Ladies and gents, I present to you another blast from the past. I recently came into possession of the VERY FIRST logbook of the UPLISSA! Hermetically and meticulously preserved by Rene Manlangit (of http://plaistrlc.blogspot.com), and with the earliest entry dated August 3, 1990, this piece of UPLISSA (and UPSLIS) history is now 18 years old. Back in the day, this logbook was the main means of communication and expression for the ILS (now the SLIS) students. There were no cellphones. Beepers hadn't made a widespread appearance yet. The Net in the Philippines was still in its infancy, no blogs, no social networks. And... This was the year when the male population of the college suddenly ballooned. This probably accounts for the fact that this was also the year when all hell broke loose. Note also the emergence of the first UPILS basketball team in the pages. So weird that we acted that way back then. So weird that the people who once wrote on these pages are now department heads, chief librarians, faculty members, executives and company VPs. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!
wow! i can still remember Kuya bringing home the logbook before. Pero mas luma yang naka-post na yan, '92 si kuya eh. Dami advertisements and ebidensiya ng love teams ang nasa logbook. Kaya nun nag-student council ako, nag-suggest ako na magka-logbook din kami. Ewan ko kung nasan na yun. hehe.

ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! The dreaded but much-loved, and well-read logbook. Is it at all possible that the UPLSAA put this "rare" book in a glass case and be preserved using all the restoration techniques known to man? Paki-kaltas na lang po sa aming lifetime membership fee (he-he!!!) We were just talking about it last homecoming -- Robert, Weng, Elvie, Rene, Neil and Me. Thanks to Rene for his safe keeping.
