A Green Party: UP LISSA at 45

It's nice to see how the old and new come together. UPLISSA (I still say the older batches write it as one word and not separate) together with the UPLISSA Alumni Board held A Green Party: UP LISSA at 45 last September 29th, 2007 at the Alumni Cafe, UP Diliman.

It's nice to link up with people you've shared your life with through the years. Different batches of those who were part of UPLISSA through the years came. Of course I was part of the oldest batch (BLS '94 and MLS '99). O_o;; Jeez.

Joanne and Carina of the UPLSAA were there together with my co-teacher Tin of the UPSLIS (all of them ca. batch 2001-02) and Tin's Niyog handbag. Tin's handbag joins the ranks of adorable accessories which include our co-teacher Nats' egyptian wristband.

The twins Marie and Marilou, of the laminated freshman form 5 fame (hehehe, nakalimutan ko na talaga yun, buti pinaalala nyo), Jenskee, Paeng and Shine were also there, as were James, of the sprinkled-fairy-dust on multimedia projects together with cohort Jackie, and Tyran, my old kendo kohai, "non-librarian", all around nice guy and UPLISSA Alumni Board President (ca. batch 2004-07).

Bombshells Iya, Kardia and Karla (pa-correct na lang spelling, ha, :D) sang lots of songs with the great Paul Peña on guitars. Kawawa si Paul, nagmistulang videoke on call. (Alamat ka, Wyndel, alamat ka) :D Later on Iya and Karla would join Kit, UPLISSA's very own K Brosas, for a dance number.

Also part of the agenda was the much-delayed oath-taking of the new set of officers: Glenn, Don, Cyrus, Kit, Laurence and Noel.  Ika nga ng isang officemate ko dati: "Keep it up da good work, guys."

Discussions were also the order of the day, topics included programs and plans of the UPLISSA and the UPLISSA Alumni Board, the UPSLIS building fund, academic concerns, et al.

Side discussions also opened up a lot of things. I just got appointed as Coordinator for Alumni Relations of the UPSLIS so I discussed with Tyran and James the possibilities of the UPLISSA Alumni Board coordinating with the UPLSAA. Okay, so this is how I see it, the UPSLIS is growing, so evolution and development on the organization level is happening and it is something you can't stop. Gone are the days when UPLISSA and UPLSAA were the only organizations.

So for students, the UPSLIS-SC (student council) oversees the college student concerns. For alumni, the UPLSAA oversees college alumni concerns. Student organizations now include the UPLISSA and the UP-FLIPP. The archives organization and the wrarians are now inactive (revival, anyone?). So for organizations, the UPLISSA Alumni Board oversees their organizations' alumni concerns. And if UP-FLIPP will have it's own alumni board, I would strongly suggest that they also coordinate with the UPLSAA. Like what I always say, we can accomplish more if we all work together.

Some final side discussions. I was talking with Glenn, Tyran and James on the choice of green as shirt color. Old UPLISSA shirts adopted the college color yellow plus black for use in prints on white shirts. Seems the change happened when UPLISSA sponsored an ACLE with "Sex in Multimedia" as the topic... So the green (minded) stuck. O_o;;

I also pointed out that with the depth of artistic talent in the studentry and alumni, we could do a battle of the SLIS bands benefit concert. Sali ako dyan!

I also suggested to Glenn, Joanne and Carina that we gather all UPLISSA, UP-FLIPP and UPLSAA people in one place. UPLISSA with their green shirts on one side, UPFLIPP with their maroon shirts on the other, UPLSAA blacks for borders and whites in the middle. That would make for one good "UP-ing-UP" and "SLIS-na-SLIS" photo-op. :D Someone agree with me, please!!! (I still say the 90's batches write UPLISSA as one word.) :D

  1. Repost ko lang comment ni Madam President, Eimee :

    Thanks for making it clear what the UP-LISSA Alumni Board is for. The last thing that we need is an org that will duplicate what we've been doing. What it will only accomplish is divide the alumni and separate the efforts that could be combined into one, thereby increasing the benefits it could give to our students and alumni. We know that growth and development is something that you cannot avoid and the best that we can all do is to work together not go against each other.

    In behalf of the UPLSAA, we are looking forward to a meeting with the UP-LISSA Alumni Board Members to discuss goals and projects for the benefit of the SLIS, its students and alumni.

    Hasta pronto,
