Pinoy Biblioblogosphere

I wore a shirt that read:

"Ang isip,
tulad ng aklat,
ay mainam kung bukas."

It's the UPLSAA shirt. And the message on it was very appropriate for the afternoon.

Von, Zarah, Juned, Arnold, Charles and Igor all came together for Pinoy Biblioblogosphere.

It's all about building a network with resources devoted to reading materials, reviews, libraries, librarianship and librarians. A lot of ideas were tossed around and we all agree that it's time for something like this. It's definitely feasible.

This is also a call for pinoy librarians to start writing about the profession. We all have a lot of ideas and stories to tell and it's time to start now. As Von puts it, and we agree with him, no one is going to write about the profession except us.

Related to that, ahehehe, it was mentioned that me, Igor the gorilla, being a gorilla-of-all-trades, has a blog that is a blog-of-all-trades. O_o;; Ahehehe... The gorilla is just like that: librarianship, linux, pc hardware, web, retro and weird computing, dreams, theater, fire and skill toys, stuffed toys, graphics, manga, comics and what-not. But it had me thinking on the way home. Maybe it's time for a "re-focusing", as Arnold puts it, since I've chosen to devote a majority of my life and time to LIS again. That doesn't mean I'm abandoning the other things that make Igor into the gorilla and http://gokitomo.com into Monkeywrench. So just expect a blog revamp / redesign (Monkeywrench 2.2? 3.0?) for http://gokitomo.com to address this focusing. And since I frequently cross-post at "The Multiplying Gorilla" at Multiply.com and "Igor and Other Stuff" at Vox.com, I'll probably keep those for aggregated posts.O_o;;

Sidenote: I had a dream about this last year. A group was talking to me about my blog content and tags. Though I don't remember the faces of the people in my dream, I think this may be related to that dream. O_o;;

  5. generic quote pala sya. :D The nearest i could get was a Chinese Proverb sa Thinkexist.com: “A closed mind is like a closed book; just a block of wood” tsaka “Books open your mind, broaden your mind, and strengthen you as nothing else can” - William Feather

  6. basta yung request... write about the profession and your studies in your blogs. :D Ika nga "No one is going to write about the profession except us." Plus, anyone who loves reading and libraries are welcome to add to the pool of knowledge. :D It's all about knowledge, reading, libraries and librarians. :D

    - reminds me, back when I was still active at anime_ph (circa 2001 XD ) and I casually mentioned that I tended to visit libraries frequently, you were one of the people who expressed surprise that, ahehe, "may mga nagmamahal pa pala sa library sa ganitong panahon." :)

  9. Google Books is far from being the compleat service, but it manages to amaze me every few weeks or so. ;) But technology can never replace a knowledgeable librarian. :D

  10. Hehehe. Medyo old school pa rin ako, Project Gutenberg plain text for my literature reading. Dunno, siguro sinisipaan ko pa rin ang commercialization of some public domain content that is just repackaged.

  11. Si Von at Zarah, online ko na lang kakilala since hindi kami nagabot sa profession years ago. Si Arnold is my kumpare. Sabay kami sa SLIS nung early 90's (ahehehe, buking). Si Juned kasabay ko nagmasters sa SLIS nunglate 90's and early 2000s. Si Charles kilala ko nung Questor days ko nung early 2000s, may common friends din kami. Hehehe. Nagkataon lang na somehow kilala ko sila one way or another. :D
